The Armenian Colors quartet, founded by Armenia’s most renowned jazz musician Vahagn Hayrapetyan, is an ensemble that presents a unique blend of famous Armenian melodies with the improvisational nature of jazz. The quartet performs
the works of Armenian composers such as Aram Khachaturian, Tigran Mansuryan, Robert Amirkhanyan, and Artur Grigoryan in the rhythm and style of jazz,
as well as some original compositions.
The musicians – Avag Margaryan on Armenian folk instruments, Karen Kocharyan
on drums, Mikhail Fominykh on double bass, and Vahagn Hayrapetyan on piano and vocals – came together in 2021 to form the quartet. They have since travelled and performed on various international stages in Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia,
and Russia, also making an appearance in the recent
Katara European Jazz Festival in Qatar.
The quartet plays entirely unique pieces, putting an emphasis on improvisation and dialogue with the audience through music. Armenian Colors will perform for the first time in Yerevan in an open air setting, collaborating with the host actors from
the Sundukyan Theatre to create a warm musical and theatrical atmosphere.
