YEREVAN CALLING is a unique quartet that performs only original avant-garde-fusion and funk compositions – quite the rare sight in the Armenian music scene. Founded and led by world renowned cellist Artyom Manukyan, the quartet not only consists of the best musicians
in the sphere, but also has a unique combination of instruments:
two keyboards, a cello, and drums.
The frontman of the quartet, Artyom Manukyan, is a cellist with
an incredibly diverse musical background. He has received a classical music education in the Yerevan State Conservatory, been a part of many jazz bands including the famous “Armenian Navy Band,” composed soundtracks for widely known films and TV series such as the Oscar winning movie “Green Book,” as well as performed with numerous famous figures in the music industry during his time living in the US.
His discography includes two solo albums titled Citizen (2015) and Alone (2019), a collaborative album with French electro jazz producer Dawatile Kiledjian, titled HILA (2020), and another solo
album titled Rap-ertoire (2021).
However, upon his return to Yerevan in 2022, the cellist decided
to gather a quartet to perform in the heart of the city. Together with Arman Peshtmaljyan (keyboard), Arman Mnatsakanyan (drums), and Karen Mamikonyan (keyboard), Artyom manages to create unusual sounds
and groovy melodies on stage. YEREVAN CALLING has since performed on international stages in Russia and France, recorded a self-titled EP,
and is currently in the process of recording a new album.
